Avid scouter and outdoor enthusiast, David Showalter demonstrates the use of flint and steel, bow and drill, and the fire piston as alternative means of getting a spark. Audience participation is encouraged, and assuming the fire-building is successful, the program concludes with a hot dog and marshmallow roast. Wednesday, July 16 – 9 am to 8 pm Thursday, July 17 – 9 am to 8 pm Friday, July 18 – 9am to 7 pm Saturday, July 19 – 9 am to 3 pm The Public Library for Union annual used book sale is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16 through Saturday, July 19 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2349 Old Turnpike Road, Lewisburg. More than 40,000 sorted hardcover, paperback, audiobooks and vintage books, as well as CDs and DVDs are available for purchase. Selections are refreshed daily. A food stand is open daily and the church is air-conditioned and handicap accessible. Due to limited storage space and in preparation for the book sale, the library is not accepting donations of books, CDs and DVDs starting June 27. The library can begin accepting donations again on August 1.

Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - Starting June 10 – August 12 Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. – Starting June 11 – August 13 This story time is for children three to five years-old and their parents or caregivers and includes stories, flannel board activities and a craft. Sessions incorporate the summer reading program "Fizz, Boom, Read". Registration is required so that enough materials are provided for children attending. The program conducted on Tuesday is repeated on Wednesday.

American Sign Language is used as part of the program. This program is for children ages one and two. Siblings are welcome to come along. "What’s the Big Idea," which incorporates math and science, is included in the program.

This program offers an excellent opportunity for both caregivers and children to bond, socialize and make new friends.
