Join the fun at the West End Library during our “Make a Splash” Summer Reading Program.  Toddlers, children, “tweens”, teens and adults are invited to read some exciting books and earn fun prizes for their efforts.  The summer will offer weekly programs, special evening programs, and even some awesome field trips!

Monday afternoon Craft Workshops for children in kindergarten through 4th grade will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. through July 26.

Tuesday morning Preschool Story Time will be held from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. through July 27.  Infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents/caregivers are invited to share in read-aloud stories, music, and simple crafts.

Friday “Teen and ‘Tween Explorations” will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. through July 23. Readers in grades four through eight are invited to explore the fascination of water through science, discovery, crafts, and more.

Special Clubs…

“The Wishing Well Club” – Pre-readers and beginning readers may watch our wishing well fill as they record “easy” books by adding a penny to our well for each book read.  For every 25 books read, readers may choose a prize.

“Club Cannonball” – Children, ‘tweens, and teens reading from the “Juvenile” collections are challenged to see how high they can “splash” by recording how many pages they are able to read this summer.  Each 100 pages earns a splash sticker, and for every 300 pages a prize may be chosen.

Visit the West End Library often to keep posted on special events and excursions.  Here’s what’s coming up next:

  • On Thurs., July 28, we will take a field trip to R.B. Winter State Park, where we will meet up with young people from other parts of Union County to find out what lives in coldwater streams, check out interesting activity centers and even build sand castles! We’ll meet at the West End Library at 10 a.m. and then head over to the park together. Don’t forget to pack a lunch! For a printable, downloadable map, click here: R.B. Winter State Park
